Prepaid SIM Cards
Visitors can purchase prepaid SIM cards at the airport or from authorized retailers. Aadhaar card and passport are required for verification.
Network Coverage (2024-25)
BSNL provides the most reliable coverage across all islands. Airtel and Jio offer high-speed 4G in Port Blair, Havelock, and Neil Island, but signals drop in remote areas.
Recommended Operators
BSNL (Widest reach) and Airtel (Better speed in hubs) are best. Note: Vodafone (Vi) has almost no coverage in Andaman.
Activation Time
Local SIM cards (bought in Andaman) take 24-48 hours to activate. Mainland Indian SIM cards work fine on roaming (no extra charges).
Internet Speed
Expect significantly slower speeds than the mainland. 4G often feels like 3G. Download offline maps before arriving.
